Using Serento with Plex

Plex works, over its own API rather than DLNA, with a few differences.

Serento supports Plex as a music server. It talks to Plex over Plex's own HTTP API rather than DLNA, which means it keeps working whether or not you have DLNA enabled in Plex's preferences.

Differences worth knowing:

  • Folder view uses Plex's folder API, so it reflects your on-disk structure the way Plex sees it.
  • Plex enriches metadata with its own online matching, so titles and artwork may differ from the raw tags in your files. Where MinimServer hands you exactly what is in the tag, Plex hands you what it matched.
  • Album identification in Serento still works, and its results are independent of Plex's own matching.

Plex is discovered on your network automatically. If it does not appear, check that the server is reachable from the device and that it is not on an isolated network segment.

Write to us with your server, your streamer and what you expected to happen. If you can, send the diagnostic log from Settings, it usually answers the question faster than a description can.
